Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

Starring: Benjamin Walker, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Rufus Sewell, Anthony Mackie

Director: Timur Bekmambetov

Release Date: 22 June 2012

This movie was first a novel by Seth Grahame-Smith. I do not read fiction, only non-fiction, but when I saw the title of novel I thought what a strange premise. Now that it is being made into a movie I still think the same thing. This sounds so wacky and strange! The film is directed by Timur Bekmambetov and is produced by him and Tim Burton (ah, that explains some things) with the novel’s author writing the adapted screenplay. The knowledge of the book and film I have is that Lincoln’s mother was killed by a vampire and he has lead a secret life as a vampire hunter. Sounds natural to me. Interwoven into the movie are aspects of his Presidency during the US Civil War.

I generally would avoid crazy premises such as this like the plague but I am a big fan of period pieces, the 19th century being my favorite, and I also admire be Lincoln. The trailer looks real good and seems to really capture that period of time…although I don’t think the 19th century truly had vampires roaming about being hunted by the 16th President of the US. I think I can suspend disbelief for this one, and there is something of the plot line that reminds me of the Dr. Who franchise, so I am going to give this one a try.

I just wanted to add: Later this year we will be treated to Steven Spielberg’s long awaited bio-pic of Lincoln starring Daniel Day-Lewis.

About billfoley63

I was born in 1963 and that is relevant to my development of my love for science-fiction and fantasy movies, comic books, superheroes and many other things attributed to Nerd culture. In the 60s I watched all the Saturday afternoon Godzilla and monster movies I could take. In the 70s I became hooked on Star Trek. I am also an artist (in my own mind at least) and a musician. I enjoy learning about physics, astrophysics, chemistry and earth silences such as meteorology, anthropology, paleontology. When I reached my late 30s I began to re-explore my nerd roots. I reconnected with my love of science fiction and fantasy movies along with the other science related topics. For this blog I will focus on movie and TV reviews for science fiction and fantasy and post my thoughts on up coming movies. I will also include some fun facts from the various sciences I enjoy along with weather facts and bits from royalty and history. What I will not discuss is religion and politics. I am married to a beautiful woman named Sarah and have a lovely daughter named Danielle.
