Back from Vacation!

I am back from my little vacation. While I was gone some interesting things happened in the world of Science Fiction and Fantasy films. I almost broke my vow to refrain from blogging on a couple of occasions. I did post some news on my Science Films Group on Facebook. If you have a Facebook account come join our group!
So here is some of the exciting news from this past week.
The Godzilla movie by Legendary Pictures has now got a release date! Set your calenders for May 16, 2014!!!! That is 20 months from now. I cannot wait for this movie!! As I have said before I don’t care for going to the theater to see a movie and would rather watch a movie from the comfort of my home. However I do make exceptions. Along with next years Man of Steel and the new Star Trek movie I will see Godzilla in the theater!
Speaking of Star Trek, the name of the new movie now has a title. Star Trek Into Darkness. I have a little ambivalence concerning the title. It doesn’t exactly flow off the tongue real smoothly. I would have liked Star Trek Into The Darkness. I know Hollywood is going with dark and gritty realism and sometimes I like that and sometimes I do not. I have read that this will be an intense movie and I am all for that, I just hope they retain a sense of optimism which for me has always been a hallmark of Star Trek and a source of my enjoyment.
Pictures from Thor: Dark World (see the trend) and the remake of Robocop were released last week. The comments seem to surround the suits for the main character. I have not read too many negative views for Thor’s suit. It seems like just a modest upgrade from the one he had in the previous movie. However, many fans are up in arms over the suit for Robocop, a movie many fans didn’t think needed to be remade in the first place. Many complaints about Robocop’s new suit is that it looks just like the suit Batman wore in the Nolan movies. I can see that there is some merit to the complaint. I do think the suit needs a splash of silver or blue color to break up the blandness of the all black suit. What I do like about the suit is that it seems modern and streamlined compared to the more bulky version used in Paul Verhoeven ‘s original movie.
This past week I picked up some alien invasion movies, Battleship and the 50s classic Earth verses the Flying Saucers. I will be reviewing them this week. I also saw the movie the Hunger Games last week and I will also give my thoughts on that movie.
Also a slight change in this blogs schedule. I am not going to feature the box office update on Monday anymore. I found that to be a bit tedious. Although I will mention box office returns from time to time just not a on a regular basis. From now on Mondays will be a day I recommend some movies both old and new.
About liamfoley63I was born in 1963 and that is relevant to my development of my love for science-fiction and fantasy movies, comic books, superheroes and many other things attributed to Nerd culture. In the 60s I watched all the Saturday afternoon Godzilla and monster movies I could take. In the 70s I became hooked on Star Trek. I am also an artist (in my own mind at least) and a musician. I enjoy learning about physics, astrophysics, chemistry and earth silences such as meteorology, anthropology, paleontology. When I reached my late 30s I began to re-explore my nerd roots. I reconnected with my love of science fiction and fantasy movies along with the other science related topics. For this blog I will focus on movie and TV reviews for science fiction and fantasy and post my thoughts on up coming movies. I will also include some fun facts from the various sciences I enjoy along with weather facts and bits from royalty and history. What I will not discuss is religion and politics. I am married to a beautiful woman named Sarah and have a lovely daughter named Danielle.
